The ASEAN-Australia Centre is excited to announce a naming competition for our kangaroo mascot. Head to the link in our bio to share your suggestion, and don't forget to include the story behind the name if you have one.

Kangaroo Naming Competition - Terms and Conditions

Competition period
  • The competition will open on at 15:00 AEST on 10 July 2025.
  • The Qualtrics survey will close at 23:59 AEST on 24 July 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.
Eligibility requirements
  • Entries are open to residents of Australia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN Member States.
How to enter
  1. Entrants can submit their suggestions through this survey. Entrants will be asked to provide their suggested name, a story behind the name, the entrant’s first name, location and email address. Entrants will also be asked to provide permission to use their first name and location (country only) when we announce the winner.
  2. Participants can submit as many entries as they would like.
  3. The winner will be announced on 31 July 2025.
Competition prize

The winner will receive an ASEAN-Australia Centre merchandise pack, including a kangaroo plush toy, water bottle, keep cup, tote bag, notebook and pen.

Selection of a winner
  1. ASEAN-Australia Centre staff will review all submissions and rank their top three. Three points will be awarded to their first preference, two points to their second preference, and one point to their third preference.
  2. Head of the ASEAN-Australia Centre will pick the winner from a shortlist of three names.
  3. The winner will be announced on the ASEAN-Australia Centre’s social media accounts on 31 July 2025. Following the announcement, the winner will be contacted to congratulate them and organise delivery of the merchandise pack.
Intellectual property
  • By participating in the Kangaroo Naming Competition, entrants acknowledge that the ASEAN-Australia Centre will own all rights to the name of the kangaroo and the story. However, the winner will receive full credit for their contribution, and their first name and country will be used when announcing the winning name (if consented). This ensures that while the Centre retains ownership of the intellectual property, the creative efforts of the participants are duly recognised.
Personal information
  • The ASEAN-Australia Centre is committed to protecting the privacy of all participants in the Kangaroo Naming Competition. The Centre will collect personal information such as first name, location, and email address solely for the purpose of administrating the competition. This information will be used to notify the winners and to announce the winning name and their country location, with the participant’s consent. The Centre will not share personal information with any third parties without explicit permission from the participants. All collected data will be securely stored and will be deleted within six months after the competition concludes.
The right to amend the terms and conditions
  • The ASEAN-Australia Centre reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. Any changes to the terms and conditions will be effective immediately upon posting on the Centre's website. Participants are encouraged to review the terms and conditions regularly to stay informed of any updates. Continued participation in the Kangaroo Naming Competition following any amendments constitutes acceptance of the revised terms and conditions.
The right to disqualify entries
  • The ASEAN-Australia Centre reserves the right to disqualify any entries that do not comply with the competition's terms and conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, entries that are incomplete, inaccurate, or submitted after the deadline. Additionally, any entries that are deemed inappropriate, offensive, or violate any laws or regulations will be disqualified. The Centre's decision to disqualify an entry is final and not subject to appeal.
